The Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI) has highlighted the proliferation of palm oil mills without their own plantations and of unregulated loading ramps (informal fresh fruit bunch collection points) in the national palm oil supply chain, Investor.id reported.
The issue was raised at a multi-stakeholder forum titled "Strengthening a Transparent, Inclusive and Sustainable Palm Oil Supply Chain", organised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Jakarta on 10 September 2026.
GAPKI considers that mills without plantations and unregulated loading ramps can disrupt the established national supply-chain ecosystem. The report also said these conditions could cast a shadow over Indonesia's ability to meet sustainability requirements under the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which requires operators placing palm oil on the EU market to prove it is deforestation-free and traceable to the plot of land where it was produced.
According to Investor.id, the issue of mills without plantations was presented by Agam Fatchurrochman of GAPKI's sustainability division. The forum was attended by officials of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, relevant ministries and agencies, oil palm farmers' associations, international development partners, academics and civil society.
GAPKI Second Deputy Chair Susanto stressed that the Indonesian palm oil industry is a mainstay of the national economy and a source of livelihood for millions of smallholders and workers. Industry-related rules can be followed through GIMNI's regulations register.
