Indonesia's palm oil exports rebounded strongly in August, with GAPKI data published this week showing shipments up 12.56% month on month to 3.588 million tonnes, worth US$4.29 billion. On the domestic market, rupiah CPO prices eased through the week while retail cooking-oil prices stayed broadly flat. On the policy front, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it is negotiating protection for Indonesian supply-chain data in its EUDR talks with the European Union.

Policy & regulation
- EUDR and farmers' data: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) is negotiating with the EU on how Indonesian supply-chain data, including smallholders' data, will be protected under the EU Deforestation Regulation; it also said an ISPO certificate does not by itself make a product EUDR-compliant. The remarks were made at a hearing on ISPO implementation in Riau on 1 October. See Foreign Ministry discusses protection of oil palm farmers' data in EUDR negotiations.
- Forest-area status and ISPO in Riau: at the same hearing, the head of the provincial development planning agency (Bappeda) said 142 villages in the province still lie inside designated forest areas, hampering land certification for smallholders (report (in Indonesian)), while Universitas Riau economist Almasdi Syahza put the economic multiplier of oil palm at 2.16–3.3 (report (in Indonesian)).
- Papua land mandate: state-owned Agrinas said it holds a mandate over around 794,000 hectares in Papua, of which around 400,000 hectares (55%) are planned for oil palm and around 45% kept for forest, conservation, communities and customary interests; mapping to determine land suitability is still under way (report (in Indonesian)).
- Minyakita distribution: regional governments and the state logistics agency Bulog continued to channel Minyakita through regular distribution and subsidised "cheap markets": 7,920 litres to Sofifi, North Maluku, on 3 October; 96,000 litres arriving in Natuna, where distribution to outer islands is still constrained; stocks of 300,000 litres in Madiun–Ngawi, East Java; and 1,200 litres at a Bulog cheap market in Jambi (roundup (in Indonesian), Sofifi (in Indonesian), Jambi (in Indonesian)).
Trade & exports
- GAPKI August data: palm oil product exports reached 3.588 million tonnes in August (+12.56% month on month), worth US$4.29 billion; January–August exports totalled 23.370 million tonnes and US$27.55 billion, and closing stocks stood at 2.214 million tonnes. See Indonesian palm oil exports rise 12.56% in August to US$4.29 billion.
- Statistics Indonesia (BPS): exports of CPO and derivatives under HS 1511 reached 2.62 million tonnes in August 2026, worth US$2.96 billion, within total national exports of US$26.61 billion for the month (report (in Indonesian)).
- India: with Russian sunflower oil shipments disrupted by Black Sea port problems, trade sources said India bought around 150,000 tonnes of CPO for November–December shipment (covered in the August exports report).
- Export duty revenue: customs and excise revenue reached IDR 240.28 trillion by the end of September 2026, 71.51% of the 2026 state budget target; CPO was reported to have made a sizeable contribution through export duty as of August, linked to higher CPO prices and export volumes (report (in Indonesian)).
Industry & sustainability
- Fresh fruit bunch (FFB) prices fell: Riau's provincial plantation office set the FFB price for 7–13 October at IDR 3,733.74/kg for independent smallholders (top price, 9-year-old palms; down 3.45%) and IDR 3,796.85/kg for plasma-scheme smallholders (down 2.95%), citing lower CPO and kernel prices (report (in Indonesian)); South Sumatra's price for 10–20-year-old palms fell IDR 84 to IDR 3,752/kg (report (in Indonesian)). In Sekadau, West Kalimantan, a smallholder association said collectors were paying IDR 1,600/kg because mills' CPO tanks were full after drought dried up the Kapuas River transport route (report (in Indonesian)).
- Palm by-products for animal feed: GAPKI said palm kernel expeller (PKE) can be used in feed for poultry and cattle, while the Ministry of Agriculture is researching higher inclusion of palm-based materials to partly replace imported soybean meal in chicken feed (report (in Indonesian)).
- Cooperatives and cooking oil: Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono urged oil palm cooperatives to build their own cooking-oil plants and distribute through the Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih village-cooperative network (report (in Indonesian)).
- Smallholder partnerships and replanting: PalmCo was reported to have bought 8.42 million tonnes of FFB since 2024 and to have supported Smallholder Oil Palm Replanting (PSR) on 49,077.94 hectares up to August 2026 (report (in Indonesian)).
- Coconut downstreaming: at World Coconut Day 2026 in Manado (7–10 October), the government said it will develop coconut from plantation to processing, with food products such as coconut milk, coconut cream, coconut water and virgin coconut oil (VCO) as a focus (report (in Indonesian)).
