Vegetable oil is oil extracted from parts of plants, usually seeds, fruits or nuts, and used both for food and for industrial applications. The main vegetable oils traded globally include palm oil, soybean oil, rapeseed/canola oil and sunflower oil.
Vegetable oils have many uses, including cooking oil, raw materials for the food industry (margarine, shortening), oleochemicals, cosmetics, soap and biofuels (biodiesel). Indonesia is one of the world's largest producers and exporters of vegetable oil, mainly because of its position as a leading palm oil producer.
