Indonesia's palm oil product exports reached 3.588 million tonnes in August 2026. The Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI), as reported by the national news agency ANTARA on 9 October 2026, recorded a 12.56% increase from 3.188 million tonnes in July.

Several product groups grew. Exports of refined palm oil rose 15.12% to 2.643 million tonnes from 2.296 million tonnes. Crude palm oil (CPO) exports rose 31.83% to 329 thousand tonnes from 249 thousand tonnes, while exports of refined palm kernel oil (PKO) increased 14.58% to 113 thousand tonnes.

The value of palm oil product exports in August reached US$4.29 billion, up 12.62% from US$3.81 billion in July. Cumulatively, export value for January–August 2026 was US$27.55 billion, 11.14% higher than the US$24.78 billion recorded in the same period a year earlier.

Asian markets drive the increase

GAPKI said the increase in shipments in August included those to Pakistan (265 thousand tonnes), India (89 thousand tonnes), Russia (77 thousand tonnes), Bangladesh (66 thousand tonnes) and Malaysia (38 thousand tonnes).

Total exports for January–August 2026 reached 23.370 million tonnes, up 2.97% from 22.696 million tonnes in the same period last year.

Developments in India are part of the wider picture of Asian vegetable-oil demand. InfoSAWIT, citing Reuters, reported that a cargo of around 20 thousand tonnes of Russian sunflower oil bound for India was cancelled and around 60 thousand tonnes of other shipments were delayed because of disruption to port infrastructure in the Black Sea region. In these conditions, trade sources said India bought around 150 thousand tonnes of CPO for November and December shipment.

Domestic consumption and closing stocks

Domestic palm oil consumption in August reached 2.304 million tonnes, up 1.28% from 2.275 million tonnes in July. GAPKI said the increase came from the biodiesel sector — driven by Indonesia's mandatory biodiesel blending programme — which reached 1.350 million tonnes, up 5.03% from 1.285 million tonnes. Cumulatively, domestic consumption for January–August reached 17.523 million tonnes, up 6.81% year on year.

With opening stocks of 2.068 million tonnes at the start of the year, January–August production of 40.997 million tonnes, domestic consumption of 17.523 million tonnes, exports of 23.370 million tonnes and imports of 43 thousand tonnes, closing stocks at the end of August stood at 2.214 million tonnes.

In the domestic physical market, InfoSAWIT reported that the KPBN (the state plantation companies' joint marketing tender) CPO price on Thursday, 8 October 2026, was set at IDR 14,850 per kilogram, up IDR 225 per kilogram, or around 1.54%, from the previous session. Commodity indicators and export policy can be followed on GIMNI's CPO reference price data.

GAPKI's August data show that higher export volumes and values went hand in hand with growth in domestic consumption, while vegetable-oil supply developments in India add to the attention on Asian export markets.
