GIMNI Weekly: Indonesian palm and vegetable oil market & policy, 17–23 October 2026

26 Oct 2026

Indonesia’s nearest-contract CPO futures and Jakarta spot olein ended the latest available trading observation above their 16 October levels, while national cooking-oil averages showed smaller changes. This week’s GIMNI reports covered Minyakita distribution talks, a proposed Indonesia–Pakistan palm project, refinery data requests, and research on processing and resource use. No new weekly export-volume estimate was reported in the selected coverage.

Prices

  • The October CPO Reference Price (HR) remains US$1,042.15/MT, effective 1 October 2026; this is a monthly benchmark, not a new weekly quotation. The associated CPO export duty is US$178/MT and the CPO export levy is 12.5%, according to GIMNI’s CPO dataset.
  • Nearest-contract ICDX CPO futures were IDR 15,775/kg on 22 October, versus IDR 15,085/kg on 16 October (up IDR 690/kg), according to GIMNI’s Bappebti/ICDX observations. No 23 October quotation was listed at drafting time.
  • Jakarta spot olein was IDR 18,428/kg on 22 October, compared with IDR 18,071/kg on 16 October (up IDR 357/kg), according to GIMNI’s Bappebti/ICDX observations.
  • The national Minyakita average was IDR 15,707.94/litre on 23 October, versus IDR 15,712.57/litre on 16 October; the maximum retail price (HET) listed in GIMNI’s SP2KP cooking-oil dataset is IDR 15,700/litre. This national average does not establish compliance at every shop.
  • National premium and bulk cooking-oil averages were IDR 23,902.65/litre and IDR 19,285.11/litre on 23 October, versus IDR 23,875.26/litre and IDR 19,261.30/litre on 16 October, respectively, according to GIMNI’s SP2KP series.

Policy & regulation

  • Authorities in East Halmahera were still discussing with the state logistics agency Bulog how to extend Minyakita distribution and address transport costs; the talks did not establish that supplies had arrived or met the price ceiling: report (in Indonesian).
  • East Kalimantan’s environmental office began field verification of a complaint about an alleged river obstruction near an oil-palm operation in East Kutai; neither the cause of water disruption nor company responsibility had been established: report (in Indonesian).
  • Malaysia’s government said most observed burning was outside the Indonesian concessions of Malaysian plantation companies it had checked; this was an official statement, not an independent determination of all fire origins: report (in Indonesian).

Trade & exports

  • Agrinas Palma Nusantara and Pakistan’s Fauji Foundation signed a memorandum to explore a proposed 200,000-hectare integrated plantation, processing, logistics and CPO-marketing project. The area and market link are plans, not completed planting, investment or exports: report (in Indonesian).
  • Riau’s provincial legislature sought refinery production and distribution data, including volumes marketed domestically and for export, to map potential public revenue. It reported no verified export total or tax violation: report (in Indonesian).

Industry & sustainability

  • A pilot study of palm-oil-mill effluent treatment in Malaysia examined biological stages and membranes for potential water reuse; it did not establish that the treated water was potable or that a complete zero-discharge system was commercially proven: report (in Indonesian).
  • Research on spent bleaching earth examined oil recovery for non-food uses and possible reuse of treated solids; recovered oil was not shown to be suitable for cooking: report (in Indonesian).
  • Two studies on vegetable-oil packaging address different questions—sunlight exposure during storage and the initial quality of retail palm oil in pouches and PET bottles—so neither establishes one universally superior package: report (in Indonesian).
  • Malaysia’s government and an Indonesian producer gave different accounts of fire-related exposure: the former discussed plantation concessions, while CEKA reported smoke and lower Kapuas River flow affecting its Pontianak plant. These are separate claims, not a shared finding on fire origin: report (in Indonesian).

GIMNI Weekly is published every Friday. Prices and regulations: CPO prices, cooking oil prices, regulations.
