GIMNI Weekly: Indonesian palm and vegetable oil market & policy, 24–30 October 2026

30 Oct 2026

This week, Indonesian palm oil coverage centred on domestic cooking-oil prices, the recording of CPO exports, and plans to move more smallholder output into processing. GIMNI also covered mill-emissions proposals presented at an energy conference; the projected reductions remain claims to be tested, not verified industry-wide outcomes.

Prices

  • On 29 October, the nearest-contract CPO futures quote on ICDX was IDR 15,420/kg, against IDR 15,565/kg on 23 October, according to Bappebti exchange data in GIMNI's CPO price dataset.
  • Jakarta spot olein stood at IDR 18,199/kg on 29 October, compared with IDR 18,502/kg on 23 October, according to Bappebti exchange data in GIMNI's CPO price dataset.
  • The national average retail price of Minyakita, the government-programme cooking oil brand, was IDR 15,707.94/litre on 30 October, unchanged from 23 October; bulk cooking oil was IDR 19,207.05/litre, against IDR 19,285.11/litre on 23 October. These are Ministry of Trade SP2KP observations in GIMNI's cooking-oil price dataset, not prices from an individual market.

Policy & regulation

  • Indonesia's Ministry of Trade said Minyakita prices in 30 provinces were within the maximum retail price (HET) and its permitted tolerance, while seven areas in Papua and Maluku still recorded prices more than 5% above the HET, according to GIMNI's report (in Indonesian).
  • The Ministry of Cooperatives is encouraging oil-palm grower cooperatives to process crude palm oil into cooking oil, with a target for cooperative refinery ownership in 2027, according to GIMNI's report (in Indonesian). This is a stated target, not a completed refinery programme.

Trade & exports

  • The Bengkulu provincial government is working to improve records of the region of origin for exported CPO; production from the province has not been fully reflected in trade-origin records, according to GIMNI's report citing ANTARA (in Indonesian).
  • A commission of Riau's provincial legislature plans to visit Customs to discuss CPO export revenue after a meeting invitation went unanswered, according to GIMNI's report (in Indonesian). The visit is a plan, not an outcome.
  • GIMNI also reported on a previously announced export-market cooperation between PTPN IV PalmCo and the Ministry of Trade, including PalmCo's target to raise the CPO export share to 25% in 2027; the underlying development was dated 22 October, before this edition's reporting window. See GIMNI's report published this week (in Indonesian).

Industry & sustainability

  • At the Energy Leadership & Business Conference 2026, GIMNI Executive Director Sahat M. Sinaga outlined methane capture at wet-process mills and a proposed dry-process mill design. The emissions figures in the presentation are estimates, not independently verified reductions, as GIMNI's conference report (in Indonesian) explains.
  • Planning Minister Rachmat Pambudy called for greater value addition through palm-oil processing without continuing to rely on land expansion, alongside clearer land status and stronger smallholder productivity and bargaining power, according to GIMNI's report (in Indonesian).
  • PTPN III showcased processed palm products and explored technology and investment partnerships at the DTIIF 2026 forum in Jakarta, according to GIMNI's report (in Indonesian).
  • Research covered by GIMNI tested camera-based detection to distinguish traversable grass from obstacles in an oil-palm plantation; limited field trials do not yet establish safe autonomous navigation. See GIMNI's research report (in Indonesian).

GIMNI Weekly is published every Friday. Prices and regulations: CPO prices, cooking oil prices, regulations.
